Top of the class for Churchfields
7/6/2010Move to new school house for teachers

Buyers searching for a new build home with an historic link have found just what they were looking for at Arley Homes' Churchfields development in Harwood. Rob and Ann Peel, both 58, have purchased the School House, a brand new home which boasts a number of original features from the Victorian property which once stood there.
The Churchfields site used to be the home of Christ's Church C of E Primary School. Arley Homes saved a number of elements from the original site, including the school house building, thought to have been provided as accommodation for teachers, which were then incorporated into the new property. These included the steps and surrounds of the main entrance, the 1855 date stone and the bell tower, which have been incorporated into the new structure.
The Peels bought the traditional four-bedroom, two-storey detached home off plan, so impressed were they by the Stitch-Mi-Lane development. Now the couple have been presented with a framed copy of those same plans which are to take pride of place in their new living room.
Rob, a university lecturer, said the blend of old and new was the perfect combination. He said: "We really liked the Churchfields development and were impressed with the quality of the properties, especially the use of stone which gives the houses a real heritage feel. When we saw the drawings for the School House we were so excited that we decided to buy even though the property had not yet been built.
"The incorporation of the original features was a real added bonus for us and makes our home absolutely unique. We now have the low maintenance benefits of a brand new home with the appearance of a much older property, and with a genuine historical link, giving us the best of both worlds."
Rob and Ann, a supply teacher, have made the move from a 1920s semi in nearby Bradshaw. They were keen to be close to the countryside in a home with enough room for their three children and two grandchildren to come and visit. Rob added: "This north Bolton location is ideal for us as we love walking and enjoy seeing the countryside right outside our windows, yet we're close enough to town and work. The house itself is fantastic and we were also very impressed with the Arley customer service and after sales assistance."
Although the School House is a one off design, all Churchfields properties are finished with a stone exterior emulating the cottage-style appearance many buyers look for in the location.
