Leading law firm, DWF, has appointed Jonathan Edwards as national head of banking to grow the firm's significant presence in the sector.

Jonathan, 44, has over 20 years' legal experience in banking and finance, predominantly in the North West. He joins the firm's expanding banking practice from Hammonds, where he had headed the Manchester office since 2007.

Before heading the office, Jonathan held the position of head of banking for six years. While there, he was involved in all aspects of banking law from leveraged finance and asset-based lending through to property finance. He has worked with all of the region's major clearing banks including, Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds TSB and RBS.

Jonathan originally undertook his banking training at Simmons & Simmons in London, where he spent seven years. He then moved to Manchester and developed his regional experience within the banking team at Davies Arnold Cooper.

Speaking on the appointment, Andrew Leaitherland, managing partner, DWF, said: "This is a fantastic appointment for DWF that cements our commitment to the banking sector. We are delighted that Jonathan will be joining us to help build on our impressive credentials within the practice.

"DWF already has a very successful banking practice and Jonathan's wealth of experience will be put to good use to drive it forward.

"It's encouraging to see that DWF continues to attract senior people from our competitors, as they clearly recognise our strength and continued growth within the sector."
