Duchy’s affordable housing scheme moves a step closer
07.11.2011
The Duke of Lancaster Housing Trust - set up by The Duchy of
Lancaster to invest in and administer affordable, residential
accommodation for local residents - has agreed a lease with Ribble
Valley Homes for its rural affordable housing scheme in Dunsop
Bridge.
Located on two sites identified as part of a community
consultation exercise in 2008, the completed development will
comprise a total of 12 homes. Registered Social Landlord Ribble
Valley Homes will be responsible for selecting and interviewing
tenants, then managing the properties, which are all due for
completion in February 2012.
The scheme is being built to Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable
Homes, the national Lifetime Homes Standard and the Duchy's own
design residential code ensuring a sympathetic design and use of
traditional materials.
Christine Grimshaw, managing director of Ribble Valley Homes,
said: "This is a fantastic scheme that is much needed in Dunsop
Bridge. There's currently nothing else in the area that offers
affordable homes of this quality and size. All of the houses have
fantastic views, a private garden, three bedrooms and two
bathrooms, so there is plenty of space for up to five people.
"We will be holding regular surgeries to discuss the
properties with potential applicants the first of which will be on
22nd November in the Village Hall from 6:30pm - 8:30pm.
Anyone wishing to apply must either live locally or have a
connection with Dunsop Bridge, such as those who've had to move
away because of a lack of affordable accommodation.
"There's no doubt that these homes are going to be in high
demand, so we would urge anyone that is interested in applying to
register their interest as soon as possible."
Paul Clarke CEO and Clerk of The Duchy of Lancaster added: "Our
lease with Ribble Valley Homes marks the start of a process which
we hope will help local people of all ages to stay or move back to
the village.
"The Duke of Lancaster Housing Trust will be working closely
with Christine and her team to help prioritise applications."
Any prospective tenant wishing to register their interest in the
proposed homes, should contact Ribble Valley Homes on 0800
