THWAITES STANDS TO ATTENTION FOR OUR BOYS AWARD WIN
05.12.2011
Thwaites' Signature Ale 'Our Boys' has marched to victory at the
Otley Beer Festival.
The golden hoppy 4.4% ABV ale which was brewed especially for
Armistice Day to raise money for the Royal British Legion, beat
stiff competition to be ranked Beer of the Festival 2011.
The Lancashire-based brewer also produced a special pink beer
pump 'clip' called 'Our Girls' to show support to female Armed
Forces personnel, which also featured at the festival.
Commenting on the award win, Ian Bearpark, production and
distribution director at Thwaites said: "At Thwaites we pride
ourselves on producing top quality ales and it's great that the
brewery has been recognised for its commitment to creating great
beer.
"Our Boys is a fantastic ale for two reasons, firstly, it has a
distinctive award-winning flavour, and secondly it's been
specifically brewed to help raise funds for a very good cause. I
couldn't think of a more deserving winner."
Jeff Utley from the Otley Beer Festival said: "Although being
mainly to promote Yorkshire real ales, particularly those from
small micro-breweries, we have usually had a presence of Thwaites
beers as we have a Thwaites pub in the town.
"We congratulate Thwaites on their win. Our Boys won by quite a
margin."
The Otley Beer Festival is an annual charity event which was
established to raise money for charitable causes within the local
community. There was a total of 65 real ales available, with 14
being on handpumps.
Thwaites raised £5,000 from sales of Our Boys and Our Girls for
the Royal British Legion which provides welfare to the whole Armed
Forces family - serving, ex-Service and their dependants.
