THWAITES LIGHTS UP STARRY STARRY NIGHT FOR CHRISTMAS
06.12.2011
A long tradition, cherished by many locals, the switching on of
the famous brewery star marks for many the coming of the festive
season. This year the star was switched on by Blackburn resident,
Dr. Tim Thomas, who was one of hundreds who entered a competition
to win the once in a life time opportunity.
Entrants were asked to describe in less than 50 words why they
should be given the chance to turn on the star. 37-year-old, Tim
impressed the judges by explaining that he had just returned to his
hometown Blackburn, after spending nine years in Canada, and that
he had missed three things; family, Thwaites beer and the 'Star of
the Yeast'.
Chief judge and Thwaites commercial director, Sue Allen said:
"There were many deserving entries, however, Tim's entry really
stood out. His description 'Star of the Yeast' is what clinched
it.
"I'm sure that the locals will be as delighted and as proud as
Tim and the staff to see the star illuminating the skies above
Blackburn."
Commenting on the win, lifelong Blackburn Rovers supporter Tim
said: "When living overseas, time allowed me to appreciate what I
truly missed about home. Naturally, family and friends sit atop any
such list but simple pleasures also take on a greater significance.
Thwaites was the first beer to awaken my palate years ago and it
was love at first pint. I have encountered many imitations the
world over but for me, nothing has ever replicated the perfectly
piquant and unrivalled taste of Thwaites. Turning on the star at
which I stared for so many years is a genuine honour"
To complete Tim's VIP treatment, he and a guest will enjoy
dinner, bed and breakfast and a bottle of wine at one of Shire
Hotels luxury four star spa hotels.
