29.09.2011
As the country enjoys an unseasonable Indian summer, the sun has
most certainly being shining at Lancashire- based brewer Daniel
Thwaites, which has been awarded the distinguished Distributor
Charter Award by Cask Marque following the installation of its new
cold store.
Established to highlight best practice in the supply chain to
ensure cask beer is stored and delivered in prime condition, the
Cold Store based at the brewers distribution centre in Blackburn,
scored an impressive 90 out of 100 to join an elite group of
brewers and wholesalers recognised with the charter.
The independent inspection stringent criteria evaluated Thwaites
cold store storage conditions assessing hygiene standards, stock
rotation and temperature recordings. Procedures were also
scrutinized including weekly stock take, goods inwards and health
and safety requirements.
Annabel Smith, training manager at Cask Marque said: "Thwaites
scored exceptionally high in the independent assessment. Depot
manager, Brian Kinney and his team achieved the outstanding score
by demonstrating that they consistently apply best practice in all
areas of the cold store to ensure that the cask ale is in prime
condition when it reaches the customer.
"The Distributor Charter Award is recognised across the industry
as a stamp of guarantee that any beer distributed by Thwaites is in
the perfect condition."
Thwaites production and distribution manager, Ian Bearpark
commented: "Thwaites prides itself on using skill and care to craft
beers of the highest quality. To be awarded the prestigious
Distributor Charter Award is recognition for both the company and
Brian and his team's hard work and commitment to provide the very
best ales.
"This is further confirmation that we're providing our
350-strong estate, independent free trade and national wholesale
network with the very best, quality beers."
