Portview serves up a treat

Portview Fit Out has helped to create the new Hummingbird Bakery on Frying Pan Alley in London. The team worked in partnership with designers rpa:vision to open the London-based American style bakery in just six weeks.

Portview was responsible for building a contemporary and striking new 195 sq m store, including sourcing and supplying a wide range of bespoke fixtures and fittings. This included specialist lighting with a vibrant red flex and bespoke red upholstered chairs to reflect Hummingbird Bakery's best selling and most iconic cupcake - the Red Velvet. The team also supplied a bespoke Corian and Wenge table which is used in the company's Cakes by Consultation area where customers come to discuss their bespoke cake designs.

Speaking about the project, Sean McEvoy, contracts director for Portview said: "This was a unique fit out incorporating a number of interesting design elements and challenges.

"As well as supplying the bespoke fittings, we had to install a decorative plasterboard ceiling raft which required careful co-ordination of the mechanical and electrical contractors to ensure they could work effectively within the small space. In addition, the construction timetable had to be continuously monitored and adapted throughout the process as there was a zero-day turnaround time before the shop opened. The launch date had been published in the media and employees were ready to work, so it was essential that everything was completed on time and to the highest standard."

Tarek Malouf, founder of The Hummingbird Bakery, added: "Portview and rpa:vision have ensured that this project was completed in record time and have delivered a vibrant and eye-catching store that still reflects the branding used in Hummingbird Bakery's existing shops. Customers visiting the new bakery almost always comment on how striking the appearance of the interior is. The clean lines, rich colours and glossy finishes all contribute towards the customer appreciating they are entering a space dedicated to indulgent and delicious luxuries - they are entering a Hummingbird Bakery."
